In the Upper Room Jesus Reveal He Is God
John 14:7-11
So now we come to the place in the Upper Room discourse that Our Lord reiterated to them and us Who He really was, is and will always be, by revealing His Personhood to them in fresh and unmistakable terminology with no hidden parables. He is God in the flesh.
John 14:9-10 (NASB77) 9Jesus •said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how do you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.“
In other words, stop letting the devil and the flesh mess with your heart, head and faith, rest in My Word. He tells all of us that have called on His name rest in the promise of my Words. Let that truth echo through this Upper Room just like it did in the first.
Corinthians 1:18-20 (NASB77) 18For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written, “I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE.” 20Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
To have a relationship with One is to have a relationship with the Other, that is an important eternal principle because all your eternity depends on what you do with the Son.
John 5:23 (NASB77) 23in order that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.
I run across people all the time that demand that if God is real that He needs to prove it to them according to their standards. Maybe you are here today and as you look forward to Easter from this Upper Room of worship is it not time for you to look Christ in the face and hear Him say:
John 14:9 (NASB77) 9Jesus •said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how do you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
