The Highest Calling Motherhood
Mark 9:33-37
I have preached a whole Sermon on the “Hand That Rocks the Cradle Holds the World’s Future”. I love what I am and do as a Pastor/Preacher, but I will never be able to be called to what I think is the highest of all callings: that of being a Mother. I know that I have a high calling also as a father, but I think that in most cases mothers have a wonderful and unique connection with the babies they mother.
I also know that I am not qualified to stand here and tell you all about motherhood, but I do have two resources that with your permission will allow me to speak on the subject of the day. (They were blessings that helped mold me into who I am today, that is what mothers do right or wrong are learned in their hands.)
I also understand and realize that Mother’s Day is not a very happy day for some of you. For lots of different reasons. I know some of you lost your mother and Mother’s Day is a reminder of the hole in your heart and life. I hope and pray that our time today will be medicine to your pain. May we celebrate the life that touched you and may the good memories shine a light in the darkness of this day,
And listen to what Jesus said: He said, ”If you welcome a little child…” What does it mean to ”welcome” a child? It means to pay attention to them, and value them, and serve them. And Jesus says, ”When you do that, you might think you’re just making another peanut butter and jelly sandwich-you might think you’re just giving another ride to practice! But you’re doing so much more. Because when you do those things, you’re really valuing and serving me (JESUS)! And when you value and serve me, you’re really valuing and serving the Living God of the universe. Think of that simple truth to put life in perspective.
As we close, I would like to thank the ladies that mother all the children that come to our church. Many of our church kids do not have godly mothers or grandmothers at home and God has commissioned East Baptist Church to not only mother but model how to be a mother.
