How To Live Faithfully Certain in an Uncertain World

Hebrews 11:8-11 (NASB) ⁸  By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going. ⁹  By faith he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise; ¹⁰  for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. ¹¹  By faith even Sarah herself received ability to conceive, even beyond the proper time of life, since she considered Him faithful who had promised.

I am not trying to make light of our uncertainty, just pointing out that stress in living everyday life is part of life, and every age has its uncertainties.

The passage before us does not encompass David’s entire journey of faith, it’s a capsulized version, but it does helps us to know how not to be shaken when the world we live in is shaking. So here is the essence, life is uncertainty, but the Lord of life is a God of certainty. This is true in all times and places.  That is why history is so important to learn from.

Abraham put his Faith in God (not knowing where he was going) Hebrews 11:8 (NASB) ⁸ By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going. Real life changing faith is demonstrated to us by Abrahm. We must put our faith in God even when we are not sure where life is leading. That is faith that moves us to make a huge difference when you are not sure where God is leading you. That is hard but full of blessings and challenges.

Psalm 143:8 (NASB) ⁸  Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning; For I trust in You; Teach me the way in which I should walk; For to You I lift up my soul.

Our Scripture today points out that in order to have Certainty in an Uncertain World we need to do more than just believe, move past just hearing and do more than just recognize God. God wants Abraham and us to demonstrate a behavior that attests and professses real faith.

The scriptures say, Abraham obeyed God… Even though he did not know where he was going. Faith does that! Faith often cannot see the fullness of the path! We need to see this as we look at how to have certainty in an uncertain world. We must trust God when we do not know where the path of the future leads.

My beloved, faith kicks in, faith picks you up, faith brightens the bleakest day, faith wipes away the tears. Faith whispers in your heart and ear, and you hear God say “I got this”. On my pickup I have a license plate that says, “God’s Got This.”

When you see man’s inhumanity to man, know that God is on His throne and more to the point, for all Christians, He is on the Throne of our hearts and we have to let the overflow move us to have Certainty in an Uncertain World.

Many do not want to hear a Biblical fact and that is while you are waiting, you are often in the school of development and maturity. – While you are waiting, God is developing and growing you, disciplining you. He is doing work in you and on you.

When God wants to make a mushroom, he does it overnight. – But when he wants to make a giant oak, it takes years, years, and more years.

As we think about how to live in an uncertain world we know deep down in our souls and allow it to overflow into life . ”Faith is working with God and not against God.”

Historical Note: It took almost three generations from Abraham to Issac, then Jacob and finally his children the Israelite tribes before they entered the Promised Land. On the other hand, Abraham stepped into the eternal Promised Land when God called him home in death. 

Peter’s ability to walk on water depended entirely on recognizing Jesus as God’s Son—as long as Peter maintained faith and focused on Jesus, he could accomplish what seemed impossible.God’s commands carry with them the power to fulfill them, and Peter was empowered by Christ to perform this feat.The miracle wasn’t Peter’s achievement but rather the result of trusting Christ’s word.
