There Is No Excuse For Living In Sin
22 “If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 He who hates Me hates My Father also. 24 If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have sin; but now they have both seen and hated Me and My Father as well. 25 But they have done this to fulfill the word that is written in their Law, ‘THEY HATED ME WITHOUT A CAUSE.’
John 15:22-25 (NASB)
We see the Word of God return to an undercurrent that runs through the Bible and often bubbles up in the teachings of Jesus. We find Him hitting the truth; the conviction that knowledge and privilege bring with them responsibility again in the Book of John.
22 “If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.” How can people do the right things if we do not know what they are? How can you expect your child to act and do right if you spoil him and never correct and teach them the right ways?
The world hates it when sin is exposed and they hate the church for preaching what is right and wrong when the flesh desires to rationalize sin and not call it out.
He set the true way before men from the Father. I think our Lord boils it all down to a very powerful understanding: 23 “He who hates Me hates My Father also.”
The last thing we need to look at this Lord’s Day is that Our Lord provided the remedy or cure for sin; and He did that in at least two ways and avenues. Let us consider them and we will see how the hatred grows when we preach Jesus as the only way to the Father. If we state that Biblical truth, the world and even some that claim the name of Christ get livid over.
1 Peter 4:12-13 (NASB) 12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; 13 but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation.
