America’s Greatness of 250 Years
Psalm 33:10-12 (NASB77)
10 The LORD nullifies the counsel of the nations; He frustrates the plans of the peoples.
11 The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart from generation to generation.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance.
Let me say at the outset, America’s greatness has not come from technological advancement or medical discovery. It has not been the result of powerful and influential leaders, nor is it because of great presidents-though we have had a few. These blessings are from the overflow of a people and nation that live out their personal relationship with God.
Let me tell you what lies at the foundation and heart of America’s greatness (and at the same time, I must also say, we are witnessing the destruction of this foundation before our very eyes). There are two things that have made America great: The Christian (the Christ) faith and God’s Holy Word, all are gifts that are ours by God’s grace and love.
We have a whole new generation of people trying to get elected to offices that will make laws that will affect all of us and take down or build up what the Lord has given us in this nation because of our faithfulness to Him and His Word.
Today after 250 years as the greatest nation of all time, we have again on the 4th of July, celebrated the signing of The Declaration of Independence. The signing of this document signified America’s official split from Britain’s rule and marked the beginning of the American Revolution. Let me read one paragraph: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”
James 4:14-15 (NASB77) 14 Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and also do this or that.”
Our Guiding Light 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance. When the Lord is our Guiding Light we are blessed. I would also add: Psalm 119:105 (NASB77) 105 Thy word is a lamp to my feet, And a light to my path.
This Guiding Light is a Beacon for the wayward. When we need direction in life. When we are off course, the thing that brings us back to where we need to be is this precious, old Book–it is our Beacon of Light.
This Guiding Light is a Blessing to the weary. QUOTE: Andrew Jackson said, “I believe the Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man. All the good from the Savior of the world is communicated to us through this book.”
